FrSky TW R12 Receiver
When you need maximum signal resilience for a large-scale or long-range aircraft, the FrSky TW R12 delivers — running two simultaneous 2.4GHz links at all times so your model stays locked in even in the most challenging RF environments. The TW R12 is part of FrSky's TWIN series, built around the TW (Twin) active-active protocol. Unlike traditional active-standby designs that only engage a backup when the primary signal fails, TW keeps both 2.4GHz bands hot and working simultaneously. Paired with three independent 2.4GHz antennas and dual XT30 power connectors, the TW R12 is engineered for aircraft where losing signal is not an option.
12 Configurable Channel PortsEach of the 12 channel ports can be independently assigned to PWM, SBUS, FBUS, or S.Port output. CP1 also supports SBUS IN for signal redundancy with a second receiver. Running FBUS through ETHOS means a single wire carries both control signals and telemetry to XACT servos, ADV sensors, and other FBUS-compatible devices.
Compatible Transmitters
The TW R12 requires TW (Twin) protocol support: TWIN X14, X14S, X14RS (built-in TW RF), Tandem X18RS, X20RS, X20R (via TD-ISRM RS module), and the TWIN Lite Pro RF module.
Why We Recommend the FrSky TW R12
If you're flying a large-scale warbird, a heavy turbine, or any aircraft where a signal interruption would be catastrophic, the TW R12 is the receiver to reach for. Both 2.4GHz channels are working all the time — not waiting in standby. Add 12 fully configurable channel ports, FBUS simplicity, and dual XT30 power, and you have a receiver that handles complex builds without compromise. FPV Builds RC carries the full FrSky TWIN receiver lineup, and our U.S.-based team is here if you need help selecting or setting up your receiver in ETHOS.
Frequently Asked Questions:
FrSky TW R12Which transmitters are compatible with the FrSky TW R12?
The TW R12 requires TW (Twin) protocol support. Compatible FrSky radios: TWIN X14, X14S, X14RS, Tandem X18RS, X20RS, X20R (via TD-ISRM RS module), and the TWIN Lite Pro RF module. A Tandem transmitter in TD-only mode will not bind to the TW R12. See our full transmitter lineup: https://www.fpvbuildsrc.com/frsky-transmitters
What is the TW (Twin) protocol and how is it different from TD (Tandem)?
TW (Twin) runs two simultaneous 2.4GHz channels at all times — active-active redundancy, not standby switching. TD (Tandem) combines 2.4GHz and 900MHz simultaneously. Choose TW for 2.4GHz redundancy; choose TD if you also want 900MHz penetration for long-range or obstructed environments.
How do I bind the TW R12 in ETHOS?
Power the receiver via XT30 (2S LiPo). In ETHOS: Model > RF > Receiver, select TW protocol. Hold the bind button on the receiver until the LED flashes rapidly, then initiate binding from the ETHOS RF menu. Once bound, the LED shows solid. Verify all 12 channels in the ETHOS channel monitor before flying. OTA updates run through ETHOS after binding.
What is the difference between the TW R12 and the TW SR12?
Both share the same RF system, dimensions, weight, and channel port layout. The TW SR12 adds an ADV (Advanced) stabilizer — FrSky's onboard gyro stabilization. If you're running a dedicated FC (INAV, ArduPlane), choose the TW R12. If you need built-in stabilization without a separate FC, choose the TW SR12. Can I use the TW R12 with a second receiver for signal redundancy?
Yes. CP1 includes an SBUS IN port for dual-receiver redundancy. Connect any SBUS-output receiver to CP1 SBUS IN, and the TW R12 takes over from the secondary signal if the primary TW link is lost — providing an extra layer of protection on high-value models.
How do I configure the channel ports in ETHOS?
In ETHOS under Model > Outputs, assign each port individually. CP1: PWM / SBUS OUT / FBUS / S.Port / SBUS IN. CP2–CP12: PWM / SBUS OUT / FBUS / S.Port. For FBUS, wire the device's FBUS connector to the assigned port — one wire carries control and telemetry bidirectionally. SBUS OUT supports 16CH or 24CH mode, selectable in ETHOS.
What power supply does the TW R12 require?
The TW R12 runs on 3.5–12V via dual XT30 connectors (2S LiPo recommended). The XT30 connectors support 20A continuous / 40A instantaneous pass-through to power servos and devices, simplifying harness design on large-scale models.
Does the TW R12 support telemetry and data logging?
Yes. Telemetry runs over FBUS or S.Port on any configured port. FBUS passes telemetry back to the transmitter over the same wire used for control. The TW R12 also includes basic black-box flight data recording, stored onboard and readable after the flight.
